CO2 Overview

Carbon Dioxide the original ‘clean’ agent, it has been utilised in a wide variety of applications to fight fires for over 50 years.It is generally used in areas that are designated as “un-occupied”, as at the design concentrations used for fire suppression carbon dioxide can be hazardous to people.

CO2 has the advantage over other extinguishing gases that in can be used as a “total flood” to protect areas such as generator rooms, switch rooms which have solid walls, roof & floors.Also it can be also used as “local application” where it can be discharged directly on to a high risk area of a production line such as a printing press, deep fat fryer for example and envelope the protected area in Carbon dioxide to extinguish a fire.

Carbon Dioxide produces no chemical residues or decom-position products, therefore making it ideal to use in the food industry and industries where contamination of a process or product is not an option.

How it Works

Carbon Dioxide extinguishes a fire by physical means in two ways. Firstly by decreasing the oxygen level below 15%, most fires are un-able to maintain combustion at such low levels. Secondly by cooling and heat absorption.

FM-200 Is a fast, clean extinguishing agent accepted worldwide. It is suitable for the protection of most enclosed areas. Approved for use in normally occupied areas where personnel safety is paramount.

It is stored under pressure as a liquid in cylinders and only requires a small storage “footprint” the FM-200 Is discharged through a piping network into the protected area.

How FM-200 Works

It extinguishes the fire largely through heat absorption and chemical reaction at the flame front.FM-200 is electrically non-conductive and non-corrosive, additionally it leaves no oily residue or deposits.When complimented with a post discharge extract system, clean up time is kept to a minimum.

Overview

Most fires start small and unnoticed and are therefore discovered too late.

Aerosol extinguishing systems are able to put out fire directly at the heat, because it does not need water or pressurised gas systems.

On top of that the extinguishing generators can be equipped with thermal switches so that they can be installed as stand-alone units, i.e,. without any control panel and automatic detection, which is ideal for small spaces/cabinets.

Aerosol technology is proven to be suitable for fire classes:

• A -solid material

• B -liquid material

• C -gas

• F -cooking oil and boiling fats

• L -lithium & lithium-ion

• Fire around electricity (<75kV).

How AF-X Fireblocker Works

Extinguishing is achieved by two reactions:

Chemical (block)

Physical (cooling)

The dry compound used in AF-X Nano generators is Potassium (K) based.

AF-X Nano aerosol compound binds quicker with the unstable free radicals (O&H) than a fire reaction, forming a stable clean compound (KOH) making the free radicals stable.

This action extinguishes fire without depleting the Ambient oxygen content.

Solid particles of Potassium (K) within the Nano aerosol have a diameter of around one part per million (ppm) and remain in suspension in the protected space for at least 30minutes, preventing further re-ignition of a fire.

Benefits of Aerosol Technology

No Use of Water

Aerosol extinguishing devices operate with a solid compound that is discharged as a dry aerosol mist into the area upon activation. There is therefore no extinguishing water that can damage your equipment, warehouse or stored goods. Moreover, there is no polluted extinguishing water to damage the environment.

Steady oxygen levels

Aerosol does not enter into a reaction with oxygen and does not dispel any oxygen. The oxygen level will therefore be maintained. The area is safe for humans and animals before, during and after activation, so there is no immediate danger should any staff be unable to leave the area due to an accident. Aerosol is therefore much safer than technologies resulting in a reduced oxygen level or the absence of oxygen altogether.

Compact and lightweight

Aerosol is compact and this technology offers a tremendous economy of space. The subsequent monetary savings are not limited to savings with shipping and transport over other types of fire suppression.

Simple installation

Aerosol systems do not need mains water, reservoirs or storage tanks. Protected spaces do not need to be air-tight, and there is no need for pressure-relief vent systems. Next to these installation advantages, aerosol units are easy to demount should your company move, renovate or change the purpose of the protected area.

Long service life

Aerosol generators are based on a solid compound. By consequence the service life stated for aerosol is usually 10 years, which is in accordance with most international regulations (product life is 15 years). Given normal climatic circumstances, which is usually the case in protected areas, and regular maintenance, there are few things that affect the system’s performance.

Overview

Inert fire suppression systems, are generally based upon argon, nitrogen & CO2 Mixes” they have chemical designations IG541 & IG55. There are many differing brand names, Inergen, Argonite & Argogen to name a few. Our Company product is INERTSAFE300

INERTSAFE300 is a fast clean extinguishing agent. It uses naturally occurring gases, Argon, Nitrogen and Carbon Dioxide. (chemical compound designation IG541) It is approved for use in normally occupied areas and perfectly safe for human exposure at the system design concentrations.

It is stored at 300 BAR pressure as a gas in standard size cylinders. The INERTSAFE300 is discharged through a piping network into the protected area.

How INERTSAFE300 Works

INERTSAFE300 extinguishes a fire by reducing the oxygen content of an enclosure from approximately 21% found in ambient air to below 15% at which most combustible materials will not burn. Simultaneously the carbon dioxide in INERTSAFE300 assists the human body in the uptake of oxygen, protecting anyone who may be still within the enclosure at the time of INERTSAFE300 discharge.

INERTSAFE300 is odourless, colourless and leaves no depos-its or decomposition products. It is non- conductive and non – corrosive. The density of INERTSAFE300 is also similar to that of normal air which gives good retention qualities. This means that the room does not need to be sealed as tightly in order to achieve required gas retention levels.

INERTSAFE300 can be utilised to protect multiple areas in a building from a central cylinder bank. This is achieved using pneumatic directional valves, to divert the correct quantity of gas to the area where the activation has occurred, thereby reducing cost and the number of cylinders required.
